Getting Here
Whether travelling from the north, south, east or west, you will find Carnarvon to be the oasis. Whether by land, sea or air, there is much distance between Carnarvon and everywhere else. If you are driving, be sure you are aware of the facilities along the way by consulting your map for rest areas and road houses. At all times, carry fresh water with you and please, take a rest when you become weary.
If you are planning to travel at night, be sure to take into account the number of stock that wander on the road. There are sheep, goats, cattle, kangaroos and emus which can damage your vehicle at best and have a negative influence on your travel.
If there are reports of inclement weather conditions, be sure to check the road conditions. Here at the Visitor Centre, we receive daily and sometimes, hourly reports if road conditions are changing. Check with us before departure during changing weather patterns. Otherwise you can phone Main Roads 24 hour Regional Road Conditions number 138 138.
Select here to check conditions at the Main Roads web site http://www.mainroads.wa.gov.au/NR/mrwa/run/start.asp?G={C5526E8F-0F72-41FD-B311-25DDCB39A493}
Whatever mode of travel you choose, you will certainly be very glad you visited Carnarvon.
