planning your trip

TRAVELLING TO REMOTE REGIONS

Carnarvon and Coral Bay are situation 900km and 1100km north of Perth. The isolation and ruggedness of the Gascoyne region is a major attraction, however, it does mean that careful planning prior to departure will lead to a more enjoyable and safe holiday experience

ACCOMMODATION

Make sure you have accommodation secured prior to heading to Carnarvon and Coral Bay. Fixed accommodation is booked out in both towns. Caravan and tents sites are still available in Carnarvon. Be aware there is no free camping in either location or you will be fined.

STOCK UP AND GET WELL EQUIPPED

With an unprecedented number of visitors expected to travel into the region, it is important to be well prepared. A comprehensive first aid kit, extra water and food supplies, tool kit, at least two spare tyres and spare parts should be kept as standard - along with the knowledge of how to use them.

FUEL

As you travel further out of Perth, access to fuel becomes limited. It is important to plan your trip accordingly. There are large stretches of road that have limited fuel stations and regional towns do not all have 24-hour fuel service. For those who are intending to visit Coral Bay, be aware that one petrol station services the entire town, and you can expect significant delays.

CONSUMABLES

Carnarvon has two large supermarkets in which you can purchase food supplies and bottled water. There are several smaller local businesses that sell local produce, seafood, and chutneys. The Courtyard Craft and Growers Market is on between 8am – 11.30am on Saturdays and provide a great opportunity to stock up fresh produce and support the local suppliers.

Coral Bay has one small supermarket, bakery, and bottle shop. With accommodation already at capacity, it is expected demand on these businesses to be high.
