This Life Events is a Mecca of all iconic and major events taking place in Carnarvon, Western Australia. From horse racing to music festivals, theres more reasons than ever to visit Carnarvon. 

Where is Carnarvon?

Carnarvon is located 904km’s north of Perth, sitting right on the edge of Western Australia’s Coral Coast, in the centre of the Shark Bay and Ningaloo World Heritage areas. Continue reading to find out more about how easy it is to get to Carnarvon. 

How to get here?

In less than 3 hours, you can get to Carnarvon by plane. Regional Express operates daily from Perth to Carnarvon, you can choose from a direst flight or travelling via Monkey Mia. The direct flight duration is approximately 2.5 hours. Flights start from $199* per person, to check flight deals and availability go to or contact Everywhere Travel on (08) 9941 4595 . Flights operate from Perth Airport, Terminal 2. 

If you wish to be a little more adventurous, pack the car with family and friends and do the #CoralCoast Highway drive. The drive to Carnarvon is approximately 10 hours, if your traveling from Perth, we recommend breaking up the trip with a stop in Geraldton or Kalbarri.

What’s on in May?

Carnar-Fin Fishing Competition

Join keen recreational anglers for Carnar-Fin Fishing Competition, an annual fishing competition held in the last week of May for the past 27 years. With a generous prize pool exceeding $25,000 and prizes awarded to the highest catch in each category, expect high drama and plenty of friendly competitiveness between locals and visiting fishermen and women. Even the tiddlers can get in on the action; there’s a kids fishing comp too.

  • Where? Carnar-Fin Fishing Competition, meet at the Carnarvon Yacht on West Street
  • When? Sunday 26 May from 7 to 8pm for briefing, event begins Monday 27 May from 6am within 50 nautical miles of Carnarvon until weigh-in on 2 June.

Carnarvon Race Club 

The Carnarvon Race season gallops into action from May to September every year, and the Carnarvon Cup is a real high point. WA Fashions on the Field Ladies Day sees WA’s finest strutting their stuff as fashion-forward racing fans enjoy all the fun of a glamorous day on the social calendar. There’s a free local bus service that runs from accommodation in town to take you to and from the races.

What’s on in June?


Heartland Cartography features percussion & a community choir which will provide a soundscape to accompany the building off of a fire sculpture. The performance is outdoors, in the round and starts with an epic sunset and a perfect Gascoyne winters day. Once built, you are  invited to leave notes, paper things that reflect your personal heartland maps of emotion on the fire sculpture. The tower then becomes an exclusion zone, is lit, aflame of release, of transformation & renewal. Then get ready to dance to the musical legends which are ‘Children of the Tide’, aerial antics of rising star Ms Milsy and much more! 

This Life Music Festival 

This Life Music Festival will bring six stars of country, rock and pop who will perform over six hours, right in the heart of Carnarvon. Get ready to some epic live music sets from a collection of true blue stars. Catch Rai Thistlethwayte, Adam Harvey, Billy Joel Tribute (with Anthony Mara), Proud Mary, Credence Clear Revival Tribute band and Bon But Not Forgotten and enjoy the festival vibes as the sun goes down.

What’s on in July?

50 Years of Memories 

The Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum are hosting a cocktail party to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. The event,hotsed by Greg Pearce will include ex-trackers interviewed on stage, entertainment with a band playing music from the 1960s, Perth Observatory-hosted stargazing and some tasty canapes. The evening will be hosted by Greg Pearce. Tickets include one free beer or glass of wine and a 50th anniversary memento.

What’s on in August?

Gascoyne Food Festival

Keen to sample as much of the region’s amazing produce while you’re on holiday? We suggest you time your visit to coincide with the Gascoyne Food Festival, a three-day event celebrating everything from fresh seafood to juicy mangoes. Rub shoulders with Perth’s finest chefs as they showcase the Gascoyne’s produce during the highly anticipated Long Table Lunch and other pop-up events. Local restaurants and cafes get in on the act too, all celebrating what’s best about the region’s food producers and farmers.
