A weekend to celebrate, acknowledge and raise awareness to the Italian Heritage and Culture in Carnarvon.

About this event

The first Italians arrived in town nearly 100 years ago. They established plantations, raised families, and were committed to establishing the horticultural industry in Carnarvon. Many of the Descendants are the backbone of the banana industry still in Carnarvon.

Program of Events

Friday 30th September 6 - 10pm Evening “Meet and Greet” at Era Plantation. Welcome speeches, history and background of the Italians from the past 96 years. Special Guest – Italian Consul MC –Mr Vince Garreffa Entertainment provided by Mr Piano Accordion Man Catering supplied, Bar available Transport available to and from Era Plantation

Saturday 1st October 8-10.30am Growers markets 9.30am Unveiling of a special Mural 10.30am – 12.30pm Local landmarks and Plantation bus tours, identifying properties established by the Italians and visiting farms that are still being run by their descendants. 12.30pm – 2.30pm Catered Lunch under the Gumtrees at Bumbacks plantation 2.30pm – 4.30pm Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum 6pm – 11pm Gala dinner at Bentwaters Plantation catered by Sophie Budd. MC –Mr Vince Garreffa Visual and Oral histories and Timeline of Italians arriving in Carnarvon Various Guest speakers, Music and stories of times gone by and today. Entertainment provided by Mr Piano Accordion Man and Rhythm and Blues Bar available Transport available to and from Bentwaters Plantation

Sunday 2nd October 9am Celebration mass at St Mary’s Catholic Church 11.30 -2.30 Catered Lunch at the Carnarvon Bowling Club followed by Bowls and Closing Speeches. We hope you enjoy our celebration of Italian Heritage and Culture in Carnarvon!
